The steroid in one of the inhalers made me gain weight, and some of the other medicines had other undesirable side effects, none of which my doctor told me about. Increased Intake of Omega Fatty Acids

Essential oils such as omega 3 and 9 are not produced naturally by the body, therefore they have to be ingested orally through supplements in order to provide the health benefits such as a stronger immune system.  Ingestion of these oils is thought to be of help with asthma, as well as circulation and blood pressure. These fatty acids can be found in fish oil capsules, primrose oil, and borage. The good news is that you can find these products easily in pharmacies as well as on the internet. I like to find the fish oil capsules that say “no fishy aftertaste, ” as those are the best in my opinion.

Lavender, chamomile, and jasmine are three of the most powerful herbs that you can use in order to get relief from asthma attacks. They can be used in oil form for massages. Not only will you feel better after the massage but you will feel even more relaxed because of the soothing attributes of these herbs. On another note, perfumes and colognes can actually be harmful to your breathing. I was not thrilled about giving up on wearing cologne, but it has had such a positive effect on my breathing that it was an easy trade off. Give it a try for 1 week and notice the results… it can really help with asthma.

Yoga and Other Meditative Exercises

Asthma attacks are often attributed to elevated stress levels. When the body is in a stressed state, it is more prone to imbalances which can trigger asthma and even panic attacks. Yoga and such other meditative practices can maintain the body’s status quo in which it will be able to remain in a relaxed state.

Yoga contains a series of breathing exercises that aims to refocus the body’s positive energy so that it would bring about balance and tranquillity. The advantages of yoga are varied and numerous but as far as using it to provide help with asthma, here are the effects you can expect:

The frequency at which you should practice yoga can enhance its effects on your asthma situation. Starting with 2 times a week would be sufficient but if you want to really make the most out of the benefits that yoga can provide, doing it every day would be most recommended. I would start slow if you’re not used to a workout routine, and then find a comfortable schedule that fits your lifestyle.

One of the great things about yoga is that while it is a form of exercise, you will not get tired or cramped when you finish. This means that you can take the fatigue factor off the list of things to caution yourself with when engaging in such activity, and such activity does help with asthma.

Asthma patients who do yoga regularly have reported extremely positive effects on their body. Although they still have attacks, the episodes are not as difficult as what they used to be before they started yoga and meditation.

Temperature Therapy

A lot of people looking for help with asthma overlook very simple conditions that might trigger asthma attacks. Extreme temperature is one of the most common asthma triggers, so keeping it moderate will ensure that the risk of attacks will be reduced dramatically.

Furthermore, if a patient is already having an attack, adjusting the temperature inside the room would alleviate some of the discomfort he/she is feeling. Generally, a cool setting is the most comfortable for people with asthma.
